About this product
Twenty pairs of slow-recovery polyurethane foam plugs with a tapered body, rated NRR 32. Slow recovery is the property that matters: the foam expands back over twenty to thirty seconds after you roll it down, which is what lets it seal to the shape of a canal rather than springing back before it is seated.
These are the disposable option. Foam picks up skin oil and grit with use and is meant to be thrown away rather than washed, which is why they come twenty pairs to a box rather than one pair in a case. The box is resealable so the unused pairs stay clean.

Fitting protection into a day
Foam plugs fail almost entirely because of how they are put in. Steps two and three are the whole technique.

Clean, dry hands first
Foam picks up whatever is on your fingers, and that is going into a canal. Wash and dry before handling a fresh pair.

Roll it down thin
Roll the plug between finger and thumb into a thin crease-free cylinder. A plug with a fold in it will not seal, and most of the time a fold is the reason noise is still getting through.

Reach over and pull the ear up
With your free hand, reach over your head and pull the top of the ear upward and outward. That straightens the canal. Insert while holding it there, then hold the plug in place for twenty to thirty seconds while the foam expands.

Remove slowly, and bin it
Twist gently and withdraw slowly rather than yanking. Then throw it away: these are single use and washing foam ruins it.
Please keep in mind
- Single use only. Do not wash and reuse foam plugs.
- Do not use plugs in an ear that is painful, draining or infected.
- Withdraw slowly. If a plug feels stuck, do not dig for it — speak with a licensed clinician.
Simple questions, answered
- Why are these single use?
- Foam is porous and picks up skin oil and grit, and washing it destroys the slow-recovery property that makes it seal. Twenty pairs to a box is the honest answer to that.
- What does NRR 32 mean?
- It is the Noise Reduction Rating measured under test conditions with a correct seal. A badly seated plug delivers considerably less, which is why the technique above matters.
- Noise still gets through. What am I doing wrong?
- Almost always a fold in the rolled foam, or not pulling the ear up and outward before inserting. Re-roll and try again.
- Can I sleep in these?
- You can, though a side sleeper usually finds the silicone plugs or the sleep headband more comfortable against a pillow.
